The Plan of Salvation

B.B. Warfield (1851-1921)

Delivered as five lectures at Princeton's Summer School of Theology in June 1914, this is Warfield's systematic account of the competing Christian conceptions of salvation. He maps the great divides: supernaturalism against naturalism, evangelical immediacy against sacerdotalism, and particular election against universalism, arriving at Calvinism as the coherent completion of the supernaturalist and evangelical tradition. Written as liberal theology was displacing classical Reformation categories, it remains the clearest short defense of Reformed soteriology in the modern era.
