The Ten Commandments

Thomas Watson (c. 1620-1686)

Watson's exposition of the Ten Commandments moves through each precept with Puritan precision, treating obedience, love, and the law as the moral framework God gave his people. First published posthumously as part of A Body of Practical Divinity in 1692, it pairs doctrinal exposition with practical application, from the nature of each commandment to the sins that violate it and the gospel remedy that restores the sinner. Watson wrote for ordinary believers, and his plain, direct prose made the Decalogue not a burden but a window into the character of God and the shape of a renewed life.
