Isaac Watts · 1707 · 378 hymns

Isaac Watts' foundational hymnal, first published in 1707 and expanded in 1709. Three books: hymns drawn from Scripture (Book I), hymns on divine subjects (Book II), and sacramental hymns for the Lord's Supper (Book III). Source of "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," "Our God, Our Help in Ages Past" (as a psalm paraphrase), "Joy to the World," and "Am I a Soldier of the Cross." Watts is the father of English hymnody.
